Web 2.0 technologies, according to Wikipedia, facilitate

interactive information sharing, … user-centered design, and collaboration on the World Wide Web. [emphasis added]

The Macomb School Bands webmaster has for some time intended to integrate Web 2.0 technologies into the website but finally realized that it probably makes more sense to use popular technologies—such as the social networking sites Facebook and Twitter—already available elsewhere on the Web rather than to try to "reinvent the wheel" by rebuilding the site at this time.

While not everyone has embraced social networking on the Web, such tools present Macomb Band Boosters with new opportunities to build and maintain relationships with our stakeholders—

  • band members
  • current band families
  • band alumni
  • friends of the bands
  • community members
  • media
  • music enthusiasts, and
  • others

To that end, Macomb Band Boosters has established a presence on the social networking sites Facebook and Twitter. You can see an up-to-date sample of what Facebook and Twitter have to offer near the top of this page. Facebook offers easy ways for fans of the Macomb Bands to interact and get information; Twitter offers multiple ways to receive information or to learn about alternate sources of information.

Should I register for these social networking sites?

For those of you new to Facebook and Twitter, in order to take full advantage of the them, you will need to register with each of the sites (see the Facebook and Twitter homepages for registration details and more information about how the sites work). Once registered, you will need to subscribe to the Macomb Bands sites or feeds on each of the sites.

What if I don't want to register for these social networking sites?

Even if you choose not to register with Facebook or Twitter formally, you can monitor many official postings to each of these sites by monitoring the corresponding widgets on this page at any time.

How do I subscribe to Macomb school bands on Facebook and Twitter?
