Marching Band Parents – Help Needed
posted September 19, 2011
MHS Band Parents:
We need your help to get the leg length on your students marching bibs adjusted properly. We temporarily adjusted many while they were in line warming up on Saturday—no easy job, and some were done with duct tape!
As soon as possible, please have your student put on their bibs with their band shoes (shoes make a big difference in length). They should not wear jeans or pants under their bibs; shorts, tights, etc. are okay. Then,
- Adjust the straps so that the bibs fit comfortably.
- Check the leg length: There should be no pleating or bunching up on the top of the shoe. The back of pants leg should be one thumb's width off the ground.
- Check to be sure both legs are even. (Many aren't.)
- Press hem using an iron with steam on highest setting. To prevent burning or scorching, use a light cloth between the iron and the bib material.
- Do not cut off any excess. Lightly hand sew or tack the hem in place with fabric tape. We have found that the two snaps on each leg are not enough to hold the entire hem in place.
Thank you!
