Macomb High School Marching Bomber Band Confirms Attending Honorees and Celebrities for March-a-thon Tribute to Local Veterans and First Responders

For its tribute to local military veterans and first responders, the Macomb Band Boosters have confirmed that the individuals and representatives of the organizations below will join the Macomb High School Marching Bomber Band in their annual March-a-thon this Friday evening:

  • Illinois State Police, District 14
  • Macomb Fire Department
  • Macomb Police Department
  • McDonough County Sheriff Department
  • McDonough District Hospital Emergency Room
  • Alene Reuschel, Macomb Schools Superintendent
  • Owen Thompson, Salvation Army
  • VFW, Macomb
  • Mick Wisslead, Macomb Mayor
  • Jennifer Witkowski, Miss Macomb

Honorees and other celebrities will join the Marching Bombers for three laps around the inner ring of the Macomb Courthouse Square at approximately 7:15 pm, following a standing concert to open the event at 6:30 pm and some initial laps by the band at 7:00 pm Following the celebrity march portion of the event, the band will invite all music enthusiasts to participate in the final laps of the event. Participants may bring their own instruments, play kazoos provided by the Macomb Band Boosters, or simply march along.

In case of inclement weather, the event will move to the Washington Street Gym in Macomb.

Macomb High School band students and the Macomb Band Boosters will focus much of their fundraising effort this school year, including the March-a-thon, on funding the purchase of new marching uniforms. Community members may make a contribution at the event on September 11; by contacting a Macomb High School band member; or by mailing it to Macomb Band Boosters, PO Box 816, Macomb IL 61455.

Macomb High School Marching Bomber Band to Honor Local Veterans and First Responders with Annual March-a-thon September 11

The award-winning Macomb High School Marching Bomber Band will host its 11th annual March-a-thon performance on Friday, September 11, 2009, beginning at 6:30 pm on the Macomb Downtown Square. In recognition of the 9/11 anniversary, members of the Marching Bomber Band invite members of the community to join them in paying tribute to local military veterans and first responders—including law enforcement, firefighters, and EMTs—as part of the Macomb Band Boosters' first fundraising performance of the year.

The Marching Bomber Band will open the event with a standing performance near the courthouse at 6:30 pm. At 7:00 pm, the band will begin the first part of its ten-lap march around the inner ring of the Square. The Marching Bomber Band has invited local celebrities—including veterans and first responders—to join them for three laps beginning at approximately 7:15 pm. Finally, the band will invite music enthusiasts to participate in the final laps of the event, the traditional fantasy march. Participants in the fantasy march may bring their own instruments, play kazoos provided by the Macomb Band Boosters, or simply march along.

The afternoon's program will draw from a list of longtime band favorites—including the main title music from the motion picture Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and the Macomb High School song—as well as selections from the band's current field show, "The Sun Never Sets."
