Macomb High School Marching Bomber Band Hosts Annual March-a-thon September 6

The award-winning Macomb High School Marching Bomber Band will host its 10th annual March-a-thon performance on Saturday, September 6, 2008, beginning at 11:00 am on the Macomb Downtown Square. Members of the Marching Bomber Band invite members of the community to join them in their first fundraising performance of the year.

The Marching Bomber Band will open the event with a standing performance on the north lawn of the courthouse at approximately 11:00 am. After a break, during which band members will participate in some friendly competition and non-musical entertainment, the band will begin the first half of its ten-lap march around the inner ring of the Square. At approximately 1:00 pm, local celebrities will join the band for three laps. Finally, the band will invite music enthusiasts to participate in the final laps of the event, the traditional fantasy march. Participants in the fantasy march may bring their own instruments, play kazoos provided by the Macomb Band Boosters, or simply march along.

The afternoon's program will draw from a list of longtime band favorites—including the main title music from the motion picture Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and the Macomb High School song—as well as selections from the band's current field show, "Asian Reflections."

Macomb High School band students and the Macomb Band Boosters will focus much of their fundraising effort this school year—including the March-a-thon—on funding the purchase of much-needed instruments and building a reserve for the purchase of marching uniforms.

Hess–Wells Kidney Transplant Fundraiser

In conjunction with the March-a-thon, the Macomb Band Boosters will collect donations for the Bryan Hess–Sarah Wells kidney transplant fund created by the Macomb Hy-Vee. Bryan Hess, who will receive a kidney donated by his cousin, Sarah Wells, played in the Macomb School Bands until his graduation from Macomb High School in 2005.
