Band Gala and More

Operation Band Aid Gala

It will be "Gala" time very soon (Sat. August 14th). A reservation form is attached in case you have not received one via US mail. Seating is limited in the Grand Ballroom so get your reservation in early! Doors open at 6:00 pm, dinner at 7:00 pm Lot of great entertainment all evening long! Tell your friends, family and more. Reservation forms are also available on the band web site (MacombBands.org/gala), Mid America Nat. Bank, Citizens/Morton Community Bank, and Pumo Insurance.

Auction Items

We are currently looking for silent auction items. If you are interested in organizing or helping with a gift basket related to a previous marching band show, email Kathleen O'Donnell-Brown. If you are interested in providing an auction item (ie, a special homemade dinner, unique talent to share, tickets to sporting, music or theatre events etc.) contact Donella Anderson via email. The deadline to submit auction items is August 1, 2010.

Park 'N' Cruise

The next Park 'N' Cruise is scheduled for Friday, July 9th. The Knights of Columbus sell food items at this event and they will donate 50% of their proceeds to the band for the uniform drive. Please be sure to stop down, eat dinner, check out the cars and listen to music.

Marching Band T-Shirts

It's not too late to order Marching Band t-shirts (order form attached)! Gayle will be out of town for the next 2 weeks, but will need to get things finalized soon. Deadline states 7/2011 (small typo). We will confirm orders received as soon as she gets back.

It was a great band weekend! Kudos to the following:

  • Library Book Sale set up & take down volunteers
  • Students who performed "We are the Band" Fri. at Chandler Park
  • All the volunteers who helped with the band booths and walked behind the band in the parade
  • Special thanks go out to
    • MHS Band members (and alums) for performing in the parade
    • Mr. Wetmore, Ken Zahnle, Jacob Thurman and Lauren White for helping students prepare for the parade
    • Kim Johnson, Carol Pircon, and Sean O'Donnell-Brown for coordinating all the Heritage Days band events

Weekend Band Updates

It's a big weekend of band activity. If you have agreed to help with any Band Booster activity, the volunteer schedule is attached. Dont forget—Band members are to meet at 9:15 am sharp, parade steps off at 10:00 am

Booster booths will be located at the Library Book sale and in Chandler Park (we are Booth #44, on the sidewalk heading to the train station).

At the booths you will find:

  • Scooter raffle tickets for sale 1 for $5, 5 for $20
  • Band Gala gala invitation information (Save the date: Sat. 8/14, WIU Grand Ballroom, 6:00-11:30 pm
  • Donation jar

Heritage Days Volunteers Needed

We are still needing plenty of volunteers for both booths this Sat. as well some to follow the band in the parade. Heritage Days is a great opportunity for us to access community visitors, visiting band alums etc. to make contributions for our uniform drive as well as to spread the word about the Band Aid Gala Saturday, August 14th at the WIU Grand Ballroom.

Please check your schedule to see how you (and your student) can assist this weekend. Email Kim Johnson via email ASAP.

Important Marching Band Updates

June 17, 2010

Parade Rehearsals Next Week

Due to a conflict, Mr. Wetmore has modified the marching practice schedule next week. Tues. & Thurs. the band will practice 7:00-8:30 pm. However, those students planning to sing "We Are the Band" on Fri. 6/25 at 1:00 pm for Heritage Days will meet at 6:30 pm both days to rehearse. Please check with your student to see if they have signed up. We need as many volunteers as possible. Call time is 12:45 pm; everyone is to wear their grey band shirt.

Band T-Shirts

The t-shirt order form is attached (hard copy sent via US mail with your letter from Mr. Wetmore with band dates). Orders are due by 7/1/10; so far none have been submitted.

Volunteers

We still need lots of volunteers to help with the Library Book Sale set-up (Thurs. 1:00-4:00 pm). Great opportunity for students to help; sign up on Mr. Wetmore's door.

Also—more volunteers are needed to work the Band booths at the Library Sale and Chandler Park (Fri. 12-8, Sat. 9-5). We are really needing help on Sat. but will take any volunteers either day. Students must work with an adult at these 2 locations. Please email Kim Johnson ASAP if you can help.

We are the Band and More!

1. "We Are the Band"

MHS Band members will be singing "We Are the Band" at 1:00 pm on Friday afternoon of Heritage Days in Chandler Park. We need any students who are are interested to meet after band practice next Tues. and Thurs to practice the song for about 30 minutes or so. (We will meet at Chandler at 12:45 pm sharp on Friday!)

2. Heritage Days Volunteers Needed

The Band Boosters will have 2 booths in place over Heritage Days to sell Scooter tickets, accept cash donations and provide invitations to the Band Aid Gala on Saturday, August 14th. HS students can help at this time too!

3. Fundraising Update

We've raised about $40,000 for uniforms so far. We need lots of help to cover the Heritage Days events. There will be many people in town visiting who also love our band! Let's make sure they know about our uniform drive. Please say you can help—anything you can do will be greatly appreciated.

We need as many marching band members for the Heritage Days Parade as possible. If you have not already signed up, please contact Mr. Wetmore (wetmored@mcusd185.org) by no later than 12:00 noon Fri. June 11th. We need to have commitments by that date to order shirts.

"Bussing for the Band" Schedule and More

  • Attached is the schedule for "Bussing for the Band" on Sat. 6/5 and Sun. 6/6. If you have a conflict, please contact Mrs. Pircon immediately. Be sure to tell friends, neighbors etc. about this event. We will receive at least 10% of the profits.
  • The Ways and Means Committee will be meeting Wednesday, June 9th at 5:30 at the Old Dairy. We will be discussing Operation Band Aid's plans for Heritage Days.
