Student Volunteers Needed for Bussing for the Band

A number of student volunteers are still needed to bus tables at the Sports Corner on Sat. 6/5 & Sun. 6/6 11:00 am-4:00 pm Please sign up in the band room or contact Carol Pircon ASAP. Remember: 10% of all profits during this weekend will be donated to the band!

      Don't forget – Mark your calendar for these upcoming fund raising activities:

      • Fri., June 4Park N Cruise (Knights of Columbus will donate 50% of their food profits to the uniform drive). Please stop down by the K of C stand to offer them your support and thanks.
      • Sat., June 5 & Sun., June 6 – MHS band members will be bussing tables at Sports Corner @124 N. Randolph from 11:00 am-4:00 pm Student volunteers are still needed. Sign up in the band room.
        Boosters will be receiving 10% of all sales during those times of the weekend—we encourage all band families and friends to come and support this event.
      • Heritage Days – Scooter Raffle ticket sales will occur at the Library Book sale and at Chandler Park. Spread the word! Winner will be drawn at the Band Gala (Operation Band Aid, Sat. 8/14, at the WIU Grand Ballroom).

      Scooter Raffle Tickets

      May 20, 2010

      We are trying to wrap up the band families portion of this sale before the end of the school year. Scooter raffle tickets and money may be turned in at the Spring Band Concert for grades 6-8 today (Thursday, May 20th).

      Please continue spreading the word about ticket sales. They are always available at Pumo Insurance on the Square. We will also be having several booths at Heritage Days.

      The uniform drive is going well and events will continue throughout the summer. Check the band website for a complete list of events and dates. Make sure to mark your calendar for "Operation Band Aid" (a dinner dance and silent auction gala at WIU) Sat. 8/14.

      Operation Band Aid – Planning Meeting

      May 19, 2010

      There will be a planning meeting for Operation Band Aid (dinner dance gala and silent auction for our band uniform drive to occur Sat., 8/14, at WIU).

      Student Volunteers Needed – Next Band Aid Fundraiser

      Calling all MHS Band Students

      Saturday, June 5, and Sunday, June 6, The Sports Corner @ 124 S. Randolph will be donating 10% of all sales from 11:00 am4:00 pm to our uniform drive.

      We need a lot of students to work a shift (1 to 1 1/2 hours) to serve food (not alcohol) and bus tables.

      Please plan to stop in if you can and also encourage your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers etc. to drop by for a snack, meal or drink.

      Formalwear Donations

      Please consider donating your student's formalwear items to the band if they will no longer be using/needing them. All items must be clean and in good condition.

      The Macomb Band Boosters inadvertently miscategorized or omitted several contributors in the list of Macomb Band Boosters Contributing Members on the high school spring concert program.

      We sincerely apologize for the omissions and errors and have updated the roster on the Macomb School Bands website.

      Also, we are looking to wrap up the parent portion of the scooter raffle ticket sale before the end of the school year. Please turn in any money or unsold tickets to Becky Pumo. They can also be dropped off at Pumo Insurance on the square. Tickets will still be available for purchase at Pumo Insurance as well as booths at Heritage Days. Winner to be announced at the Band Gala on Sat. Aug. 14.

      The students brought in almost $1200 in change, enough money for 3 uniforms — Great job!

      Trip Payments

      The following people still have a balance due for the trip. Please check the band website for specifics. Balance needs to be paid in full prior to departure on Fri.

      Trip Needs

      It looks like the weather will be cool on Saturday in St. Louis. Students should bring a jacket/sweater etc. It may be rainy on Fri so be prepared for that as well. Also will need nice clothes for the Symphony on Sat.

      Students need to bring money for at least 1 meal at the mall on Sat as well as shopping and souvenirs.

      Luggage Check

      Luggage will be check prior to departure. Please bring bags to the Fellheimer Foyer on Fri. am. as you arrive at school. Trip departs after 1st period.

      Final Band Booster Meeting This School Year

      Tues. May 4 at 7:00 pm (not May 11) is the final Band Booster Meeting for this school year. Please come to vote in officers and hear about all the exciting events that will be occurring the remainder of this school year and throughout the summer.

      We can't do it without your help!

      Attached are the minutes from the April meeting and agenda for this meeting.

      Also—permission slips for the HS Band trip leaving Fri. 5/7 are due now. Please ask your student about this.

      Operation Band Aid – Uniform Drive

      May 2, 2010

      • Gala – Sat. 8/14

        One of the major fundraising events for the band uniform drive is the dinner-dance scheduled for Sat. Aug. 14 in the Grand Ballroom at WIU. In order for this event to be extremely successful, it will need a steering committee of dedicated volunteers to plan and organize it. Leading the way as event co-chairs are Carol Pircon and Becky Pumo. The steering committee will focus on:

        • corporate sponsorships
        • publicity
        • music/entertainment
        • silent auction donations
        • decorations
        • reservations
        • other

        Please consider helping with the organization of this event. Contact Carol Pircon or Becky Pumo if you can help.

      • Scooter Raffle Tickets

        A few months ago, every band family was sent 10 scooter raffle tickets to sell—1 for $5 OR 5 for $20. We need to wrap up this portion of the sale before school gets out. Please get your money or remaining tickets to Becky Pumo ASAP. She can be reached at Pumo Insurance 19 E. Side Square or via e-mail.

        Please continue to encourage people to purchase tickets. They are regularly available at Pumo Insurance.

      • Change Challenge Final Results

        Band students grades 6-12 raised approx. $1,200 (This could purchase 3 uniforms)

        Results as follows:

        • 1st – Wind Symphony (winner of ice cream party before the end of the year)
        • 2nd – 7th grade band
        • 3rd – 6th grade band
        • 4th – Concert Band
        • 5th – 8th grade band
      • Shop 'N' Share

        March 26-28 Macomb Bands participated in the Hy-Vee Shop N Share fundraiser. This event raised over $3,000. Thanks to all who helped make this event so successful!

      • Park 'N' Cruise

        The Knights of Columbus have a food booth at the Park N Cruise each month. They have agreed to donate 50% of their proceeds to our uniform drive. Please mark your calendar to stop down and visit their booth and express your thanks for their generosity.

      Many thanks to all who assisted with the IESA contest today. Without your help, this event would not have been possible.

      Our students performed extremely well—each ensemble received a 1st. Kudos to them, as well as Mr. Mattsey and Mrs. Stegall!
