President Sean O'Donnell-Brown called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

Thank-You!

  • Gayle Zahnle for coordinating the Fruit Sale
  • All Fruit Sale volunteers
  • Becca Pettit, Cheryl McGowan, Maggie Lien, Jamie Lane, Kathleen O'Donnell-Brown for help with the alumni mailing—thanks also to Joanne Hooper who was mistakenly omitted!
  • Everyone who generously donated stamps for the mailing

Reports

  1. Secretary's Report – Kelly Fitzgerald, filling in for Cheryl McGowan: A motion to accept them with the one correction (omission in thank yous) was made by Kathleen O-B and seconded by Kim Johnson.
  2. Treasurer's Report – Becca Pettit: Becca pointed out that it was decided to have 60% of the profit from fruit sales go to the kids and 40% to go to Band Boosters. A motion to accept the report was made by Dave Wetmore and seconded by Jamie Lane.
  3. Jr. High School Director's Report – David Wetmore
    • Mr. Mattsey was not present as he needed to spend some time with his family after being gone to practice for the Inauguration, so Mr. Wetmore presented the report
    • Justin Davis, 1994 MHS grad. working on his Master's Degree worked with the Jr. High last week
    • Chaperones will be needed for Solo/Ensemble in Quincy on 2-21-09
    • President's Day may not be a day of school and therefore custodians will have to be paid to come in for the Spaghetti Supper
  4. High School Director's Report – David Wetmore
    • Changes in the finals schedule have resulted in changes to the spring rehearsal schedule
    • Jazz band has resumed practicing
    • Solo/Ensemble is in Rushville 3-7-09
    • Olympic Festival is in Monmouth
    • A recording needs to be made for Superstate but the kids almost act afraid of the microphone

Old Business

  • Concert attire arrived in time!
  • Holiday Concert went better than Mr. Wetmore's expectations. Great to have the composer of the school song present
  • Mr. Wetmore could not find time to take some kids to the area nursing homes. May take some Solo/Ensemble kids later or maybe the Jazz Band on a "tour"
  • Discussion about where to hold the Jazz Night took place. A suggestion to hold it at the Performing Arts Center was brought up but then we might need to worry about playing "published music" in a non-school venue. It was decided to that maybe it should be held at the school so we won't need to worry about that issue.
  • For the Organizational Contest we will be informing the other schools that food will be available. Pizza, popcorn, candy, and soda were suggested. 16 schools so far are coming, Canton and Dunlap will be unable to attend because it is the time of their Spring Breaks
  • Another payment for the spring trip is due 1-21-09

New Business

  • Truffle sales started yesterday. Kathy Burdick said it is nice to have the money with the paperwork. Orders will be accepted through the 26th
  • 1-24-09 and 2-7-09 (from 9-12 pm at the University Church) are the dates for assembling the truffle boxes
  • Kim Johnson presented Becca with a tile that reads "nobody knows the truffles I've seen"
  • A school bus and a minivan will be taken to All State. 18 kids will be attending
  • All bands will be playing for the Spaghetti Supper
  • 5th grade parents will be specially invited to the May 12th Band Booster meeting at the "Welcome to 6th grade Band" meeting. An announcement will also be made at the Spring Concert
  • Sean O-B will look into the debit card for the Boosters
  • Dates for next year:
    • September 12 – Marchathon
    • September 19 – Pekin Field Show
    • September 26 – MHS Homecoming, Geneseo Field Show
    • October 10 – WIU Field Show
    • October 17 – WIU Homecoming, U of I Field Show
    • October 24 – ISU Field Show
