- Treasurer's Report – Becca Pettit presented the treasurer's report. A motion to accept it was made by Cindy Cavett and seconded by Kelly Fitzgerald.
- Ways and Means Report – Beth Seaton stated there was no report.
- Jr. High School Director's Report – Doug Mattsey
- Mr. Mattsey reported that 16 students auditioned for IMEA District and 13 placed which is a very large percentage.
- Information on the Chili Supper has been distributed. Mr. Mattsey will also email it to all 6-8 grade band families.
- Jazz band is going very well, 41 students are participating. Sectionals are on Tues. and full band rehearses on Thurs. There may be a Jazz night with the high school in March.
- 6th grade students are doing very well. The band sounds good and is responding well to new materials.
- The band room doors are being repaired. There are currently some security issues, but maintenance is working on it.
- High School Director's Report – David Wetmore
- Mr. Wetmore stated marching season is quickly coming to an end and it was a great season. Playing tests have been completed and drill book checks are in process.
- Show results:
- Pekin—very good show, a quality contest and good judges. We placed 2nd overall. Judges comments were useful and helpful
- WIU – band learned the entire show just prior to this event. We won our class and small division.
- ISU/Metamora – The band did very well placing .15 of a point behind the winning band. The show at Metamora was even better than ISU. We won the general effects trophy for the first time.
- The band is preparing for WIU parade this weekend, 10:30 am step off.
- 25 students participated in district auditions, 19 placed. Additionally, a number of band students auditioned for choir and were placed.
- Senior Night is Fri. 10/17, parents need to meet at the north end of the field at 6:30 pm
- Chair placement auditions will now be 11/4 due to a large school board meeting on 10/28. Marching uniforms will be returned and concert uniforms will also be measured this same evening.
- Concert Band camp is scheduled for 11/14. Emphasis will be on getting the group started on chamber music. We will also be doing some work with the SMART music program.
- Dickens on the Square (12/5 & 12/6) and the Holiday Concert (12/14) are the next major events.
Old Business
- Membership and ice water table volunteers for 10/17 – Susan Denecke and Dana Miller.
- Chili Supper—Dee Kirwan reported that a number of donations have been obtained. HyVee – all Bread, DOT—donated crackers and cheese, Walmart—gift card. Dee and Paul are working hard to get the costs down. About 125 tickets have been preordered so far. Cheryl McGowan will send an email requesting volunteers to work and provide desserts. Dee volunteered to chair this event again next year.
New Business
- Marching DVDs
- Western Classic DVD – we need at least 1 more to make the order at $15 each.
- DVD from ISU is also very good. Mr. Wetmore has an order form for those who are interested.
- Marching Uniform return is 11/4. Students need to bring in $10 for dry cleaning. Seniors need to be reminded to keep their chords. Cheryl McGowan will send an email on this as well.
- Concert Attire – Discussed arranging a uniform swap via the website for those who have pieces that no longer fit. Will encourage that all swapping be completed prior to the 11/4 fitting. Clothing donations will also be accepted and should be brought to the band room.
- Fruit Sale—Gayle Zahnle will coordinate. No additional news at this time.
- Alumni Appeal – Sean O'Donnell-Brown will send out a letter and brochure. Volunteers are needed to help stuff envelopes after the Nov. band boosters meeting.
- IHSA Organizational Contest – Macomb will be hosting these events, High School (4/4/09) and Junior High (5/1/09). Some confusion exists regarding the status of PTO involvement in these events. Sean O'Donnell-Brown will clarify this. Will also need to coordinate with Choir Boosters.
- Debit Card – There are times when this would be very helpful (ex. ordering online, hotels etc.). Need to determine if this is possible with our 2-signature checking account. Becca Pettit will look into this.
Meeting adjourned 8:35 pm
Respectfully submitted,
Cheryl McGowan, Secretary
