Macomb Band Boosters Monthly Meeting
Tuesday, April 8, 2008
7:00 pm
Call to order
president Sean O'Donnell-Brown called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.
Reports
- Secretary's report – In the absence of secretary Kelly Barsi, the minutes were read by the president. Mr. Mattsey moved to accept the minutes as read, and Kathy Burdick seconded. The motion was approved.
- Treasurer Becca Pettit presented the treasurer's report. Highlights included the spaghetti supper total of $1,789 and truffle sales of $2,694. The CD has earned $205.25 in interest and will not be renewed. The total available money for the band booster general fund is $14,797.42, with $2,605.35 in the uniform account and alumni fund balance of $5,652.67. Kelly Fitzgerald moved to accept the report, and Kathy Burdick seconded. Treasurer's report was approved.
- Ways and Means Committee Chair Beth Seaton was unable to attend. President O'Donnell-Brown reported that the Hometown Helper Grant Application contest was over, but no news had been received of the outcome.
- Jr. High School Director's report – Doug Mattsey
- Mr. Mattsey was pleased with the performance and atmosphere of the Spaghetti Supper. He received many positive comments on the enhanced performance atmosphere, especially from 6th grade parents.
- Organization contest is on April 25; 8 chaperones have volunteered to go with the band.
- Musically, the kids are doing well. 7th grade has a new book, which emphasizes good technical skills and will be used into the 8th grade.
- Mr. Mattsey suggested a plea go out to the graduating seniors and others for used instruments. Those not good enough to play can be turned in by the program for credit to a music store. Old and unused school instruments will probably be turned in, also (subject to approval of the school district).
- Camp Scholarships – Mr. Mattsey will submit two names for the Meixner Scholarship. He has about 7-8 students asking for financial assistance. Kathy Burdick moved to approve $150 for each student needing funds. Kelly Fitzgerald seconded. Motion approved.
- Expo and 6th grade orientation – Testing will begin April 21 and band night will be on May 6. Some membership forms will be available that night for parents.
- Summer lessons will be Mondays through Thursdays, June 2–19 for the 6th grade. Lessons will resume in August, probably August 12, 13, and 14.
- High School Director's report – David Wetmore
- Mr. Wetmore was pleased with the performance of the musical and the pit orchestra.
- Organization contest is April 11 in Avon. Four buses will be taken so that they can also be used as homerooms, due to the small size of Avon's school.
- Superstate – May 2. All bills have been paid. Probable departure time 1:30 pm. Only Wind Symphony will attend and perform. Mr. Wetmore will order pizzas and soda for dinner outside Krannert. Homeward bound about 9:00 pm
- St. Louis Trip – April 25–26. Schedule will be up on the website. Math and science team students will leave for competition and return to group.
- High school concert May 4.
- Tentative 2008-2009 schedule –
- School starts August 20.
- Marching camp – freshman camp, July 31–August 1; full camp, August 4–9, all day; evening rehearsals, August 11–15.
- Uniform distribution tentatively August 16 (or 23).
- Western Field Show, September 27: MHS Homecoming, October 3; ISU Field Show, October 11; Western Homecoming, October 18; U of I, October 25; Chili Supper, October 27; March-a-thon, September 6; parent-teacher conferences, October 30–31
