Macomb Band Boosters Monthly Meeting
Tuesday, March 4, 2008
7:00 pm

Call to order

The meeting was called to order by president Sean O'Donnell-Brown at 7:05 pm

Reports

  1. Secretary's report – The secretary's report was presented by Kelly Fitzgerald (took minutes for Kelly Barsi at February meeting.) Kelly Barsi moved to accept the report; Kathleen O-Donnell- Brown seconded and the motion passed.
  2. Treasurer's report – The treasurer's report was presented by Becca Pettit. Kelly Fitzgerald moved, Caren Bordowitz seconded and the report was approved.
  3. Ways & Means chair report
    • Sean O'Donnell-Brown reported that the Hometown Helper Grant information was posted to the website and people are making comments which is part of the requirement. Grant information and a request for comments has been printed in one newspaper; Sean will also send to the other. Caren Bordowitz will post it to the WIU system. Deadline is March 31, 2008.
    • Olympic Band Festival—Kelly Fitzgerald reported that Domino's will begin pizza delivery at 4:20 with additional deliveries every 30—40 minutes. There are 2 warmers available to hold 6 pizzas each. Boosters' cost is $6.50 per pizza (plus a $1.00 charge per delivery) and it will be sold for $1.50 per slice. Fruit, candy and cookies will also be sold. It was suggested to sell the snack items in the Fellheimer lobby as well as in the commons.
    • Parents are needed to serve as door monitors so that no food/drinks are brought into the auditorium. Ken Zahnle will serve as the announcer. MHS students will sign up to host visiting bands. MHS band members will be required to listen to and critique visiting bands. Sean Kirwan is the official greeter.
  4. Jr. High School Director's report
    • In Mr. Mattsey's absence (due to illness) Mr. Wetmore reported that the kids did a great job at Solo and Ensemble contest–it was the largest number of kids to participate in 15 years. Preparation for contest is a time of growth for students.
    • Chamber groups and the 6th grade band played well for the Spaghetti Supper.
    • Music has been selected for Organizational Contest.
  5. High School Director's report – David Wetmore
    • Mr. Wetmore was pleased with the Spaghetti Supper–the new procedures were very successful in reducing crowd noise for a much better sound and performance experience in the commons.
    • Students performed well at Solo and Ensemble contest. It was suggested to do some type of ensemble concert to allow more opportunities for students to perform–ideas included a pre-contest concert, playing at a nursing home or playing for 5th grade recruitment.
    • Organizational contest is in Avon on Friday, April 11–technical difficulties resulted in a late registration but there should be no problem.

Old Business

  1. Spring trip payments are coming in better; the band is working on the music.
  2. Spring Musical – The pit orchestra is large and will be rehearsing more after break.

  6. Graduation is May 17.
  7. Mr. Wetmore said that the band was invited back to play for the Indy 500 parade, but since it occurs after our graduation it is not feasible.
  8. The grades 6—8 spring concert is scheduled late (May 15) to help keep the kids engaged until the end of the school year.
  9. 6th grade summer lessons will take place in June this year, while the high school is preparing for the Heritage Days parade. There will be a refresher week for 6th graders in August.

Respectfully submitted,
