Call to order
The meeting was called to order by president Sean O'Donnell-Brown at 7:04 pm
Reports
- Secretary's report – The secretary's report was read by Sean with no corrections. Colleen Carlson did make the suggestion that in her experience some grad students are very capable in providing lessons to younger musicians. They also need the experience and funds and that maybe the professors could get involved with suggestions. It would be best on a case-by-case basis, and education majors would need the experience the most. Colleen also commended Sean on the Band website. Maybe there could be a blog for notes too. Colleen Carlson made a motion to approve the minutes with Dana Miller seconding.
- Treasurer's report – The treasurer's report was read by Becca Pettit with one note that the money for the Holiday Inn (All-State) will be reimbursed by the school. Sean made a motion to pass the report with Dana seconding.
- Ways & Means chair report – Olympic Band Festival: As of Sunday, only Farmington had replied to the month-old email Mr. Wetmore had sent out. Knoxville and Monmouth-Roseville have new directors. It has been decided to not treat the concessions as a fund raiser but more of a convenience. Packaged foods were suggested as was pizza. Health Department regulations will also be looked into.
- Jr. High School Director's report
- Mr. Mattsey said there are 41 kids playing solos and 11 ensemble entries in the Liberty, IL, event. Heidi Clemmons and Ericka Aurelio have volunteered to chaperone the day.
- For the Spaghetti supper, the junior high will begin at 5:30 and go until 6:30. The high school will go from 6:30-8:00. Sixth through eighth grades will be having ISATs that week. New "tricks" will be employed this year to make the evening more pleasant for everyone. Suggestions were: rotate tables to cut down on noise going towards the bands, lower the lights when the band is about to perform, table tents and signs requesting quiet when the band is playing, using proper decorum, etc.
- High School Director's report – David Wetmore
- Mr. Mattsey gave the senior high report as Mr. Wetmore was not present. The bands are doing well. Solo and Ensemble is March 1.
- For the Olympic Band Festival, the predicted numbers for the bands are Farmington 72, Knoxville 60, Monmouth-Roseville 45. The playing times for the bands are Concert Band 6:00, Farmington 6:30, Knoxville 7:00, M-R 7:30, and Wind Symphony 8:00. We will be using the commons for concessions, the girl's deck in the gym as a staging area, and the band room as the warm-up room. A notice will go out for help with the chairs on the stage and as band guides. The separate clinic will be omitted this year because of negative feedback from the other directors.
- Important dates coming up: April 4, 5, 6 – Oklahoma!
- April 11 – Edison's Fine Arts Festival, Organizational Contest for MHS in Avon
- April 25 – IESA for junior high
- April 25-26 – spring trip for senior high
- Spring concerts – May 4th junior high, May 15th senior high
Old Business
- Hometown Helper – The Band Boosters are looking to obtain $5,000 for a trailer from the "Hometown Helper". A request will need to go out for people to go on the band's website to show their support for the Macomb High Band. This will be done once the link is on the website. Sean and Beth have been hard at work on this project.
- Truffle Sales – Becca reported "money in, truffles out, perfect"
New Business
- Illinois Superstate – This year it is on May 2nd at U of I. A tape is to be submitted in order to be accepted.
- >Western Showcase of Bands – There will be performances and clincs. Three bands from the state are invited to participate and then there is also an all-star band made up of kids recommended by their directors.
Sean extended thank yous per the agenda.
Adjournment was at 8:04 pm with a motion made by Kelly Fitzgerald, seconded by Becca Pettit.
Respectfully submitted,
Kelly Fitzgerald, Vice President
